The earliest record of Hezi Qun is found in Selection of Tales in 'Lei Shuo' 类说 compiled by Zeng Zao 曾健 (1091-1155) of the Southern Song dynasty. Hezi Qun can also be seen in the painting of the 'Court ladies adorning their hair with flowers' (簪花仕女圖), by painter Zhou Fang.
However, it is worth noting that due to the lack of artifacts, there is no evidence to support the reconstruction of Hezi Qun.
Hezi Qun was frequently paired with Da Xiu Shan (wide-sleeved cardigan-like garments) made of sheer, thin silk; it had beautiful embroidery and motifs, and some of its sleeves were often more than 1.3 meters long.
